Email sequences send a planned series of emails after a customer action, such as confirming a form signup, making a purchase, joining a list, or becoming inactive. ProfitJam keeps the emails, delays, entry rules, and exit rules together so you can build the journey once and let each person move through it in order.

Choose a starting point

Open Sequences, select Create, and choose the outcome closest to what you need:

  • Welcome new subscribers and Warm leads up to a conversation create an AI-written draft from your Business Brain.
  • Recover incomplete carts, Follow up after a purchase, Win back quiet subscribers, and Reach out to new prospects create a ready-ordered framework for you to fill in.
  • Start blank creates an empty sequence when you want to decide every step yourself.

The generated welcome and nurture options still begin as drafts. Read every email and set the trigger before publishing.

Build the email journey

The first email has no step delay. Every later email has a delay from the step before it.

  1. Select an email step to open the editor.
  2. Edit its Subject, Preheader, and body, then select Preview to check the rendered email.
  3. Use Test send to send a copy to one email address, then Save your changes.
  4. Return to the sequence, select Add email for another step, and set its delay in minutes, hours, or days.
  5. Drag the step handle to change the order, or delete a step you no longer need.

A sequence-step email is saved rather than published on its own. The parent sequence controls when it can be delivered to enrolled contacts.

Tip: Give each email one job. A clear progression from welcome, to value, to proof, to a next step is easier to understand and easier to improve than several emails repeating the same pitch.

Decide who enters

Select Trigger and choose the event that should start the sequence. Current options are:

  • form submission;
  • purchase;
  • checkout started;
  • joined a list;
  • an event from your product;
  • a date after signup; or
  • inactivity after a selected product event.

The trigger editor shows the filters available for the event you choose. For example, you can limit a purchase trigger by order value or product, choose particular forms or lists, or match product-event details and history.

Form and list starts apply consent checks. A form-triggered sequence starts after the contact confirms their email, not from the raw form submission.

Use Timing when you want a supported trigger to wait before starting or fire only inside an active date or weekday window. A delayed start can cancel itself when the person purchases. The trigger preview checks supported triggers against recent activity, and Recent activity shows why people did or did not enter.

Control re-entry and exits

Use How often to decide whether the same person can enter:

  • Once ever;
  • Once per N days; or
  • Every time the trigger happens, provided they are not already active in this sequence.

Use Exit rules to stop someone after a purchase or after a selected product event. Unsubscribing always removes the person from the sequence.

Test and publish

Preview and test-send every step, check the order and delays, then select Publish on the sequence. A draft or paused sequence does not deliver its queued steps. On a live sequence, Unpublish pauses delivery and keeps existing enrollments waiting until you publish it again.

Important: Unpublish a live sequence before adding, deleting, reordering, or substantially changing its steps and delays. Those controls remain editable while it is live, and active enrollments use the current step order when their next email becomes due.

After publishing, use the line beneath each step to review Sent, Opened, and Clicked counts. Use Recent activity to understand trigger decisions separately from email performance.

Common questions

Can the same person enter more than once?

Yes, if How often is set to Once per N days or Every time. ProfitJam will not create a second active enrollment for that person in the same sequence.

Can two different sequences email the same person?

Yes. The same-sequence entry check does not guarantee separation between different sequences for warm contacts or list subscribers. Review overlapping triggers and audiences before publishing another sequence aimed at the same people.

What stops a sequence?

Unsubscribing always stops it. You can also add an exit rule for a purchase or a selected product event. A sequence that is unpublished or paused stops delivering until it is published again.

Does Test send make the sequence live?

No. It sends the current email to one address for review and does not publish the email or the sequence.

Can I edit a live sequence?

The editor allows it, but unpublish the sequence first when changing its structure, order, or delays. Review the whole journey, then publish it again.
